It was one of those lights with the fan built in that you can usually find in bathrooms. I couldn't exactly see what I was doing so i just felt around inside the fan and found the bulb. I unscrewed the bulb and got the new one. I couldn't seem to find the socket where the bulb went in so I had to feel around for it. Not realizing that the switch was still on, I stuck my finger in the socket. An electrical surge coursed through my body and I pulled my hand out immediately. I was glad to see there were no injuries on my hand, just a little shaken. My hand was slightly shaking for about another five minutes. I just laughed at the fact that I just got electrocuted. It felt pretty weird, but awesome in a way. Next time I go to change a light bulb, I think I'm gonna ask for a little help.

Friday Free Write!

This week, my friend suffered a very bad injury at my house. It was just a normal day after school and I was hanging out with one of my neighborhood friends, Mitchell. We went outside and in the garage we spotted a skateboard. We thought it would be funny if we tried to go off one of my ramps in my driveway, being that we haven't skated in over 2 years. The first few attempts at the jump were unsuccessful but Mitch assured me that he could land this. At his last attempt he lands cleanly, but the board slips out from under him. His stuck his arms out trying to break the fall. His body lands awkwardly on the driveway and I heard a big crack. He immediately jumps up holding his arm and screaming my name. I look at his arm and its at a ninety degree angle, His forearm is in half and about two inches of bone is coming through his skin. Filled with adrenaline I sprint inside to get my mom. I yell telling her the news and she jumps up and comes outside. We find Mitch sitting sitting on my porch wincing, his white shirt now covered in blood. My mom's quick thinking helps Mitchell to the car. I hop in right with him in the backseat with a bucket in case he had to throw-up. We rush him to the OSS where he was taken immediately in for x-rays to see where the bone had broke through. We waited in the waiting room and the news came out that he would have to get surgery. He got a medal rod, and two plates into his arm.

Bullying First Hand

I can vouch that on my bus, in the afternoon, bullying occurs. The two boys sitting behind her thought it was a good idea to jam there knees into the back of her seat, making it uncomfortable for her to sit. It was the tragic story of Ryan Halligan. He seemed to be a normal boy going through middle school, dealing with the usual bullies. He would talk to his father about these problems and his dad gave him support. His father gave him advice, thinking this was just going to be a little issue that would pass. But that was not the case, at the age of 13 he committed suicide.

I think that this is a very sad, but real story. Just about every middle schooler goes through cases of bullying, even myself. It's usually a hump in life that we all get over, but for some people it's different. For Ryan, I feel like he was overwhelmed and had no where to go. That's why he made the decision he did, because he just couldn't take it anymore. I feel bad for him and what he had to go through. I think it was just a common case of cyberbullying that took a fatal turn for the worst.

Cyberbullying Videos

In the first video, it was very tragic and saddening story. I think the father was trying to reach out to the bystanders and convince them to be courageous and step up for people like his son. They need help to deal with the situation.

The second video, I think it takes bravery to step up like that, but I think it's something that is necessary. These might have just been fake situations but the affect is so real. Teenagers all over America are feeling the same affect, and we have to start stepping up for people who can't defend themselves.

The third video, was a true and very sad story about a young girl who committed suicide. The people teasing her didn't have these intentions, but it still happened. They disguised themselves as a boy who pretended to have a crush on this girl. When the "boy" told her they didn't want to be friends anymore, it destroyed her emotionally.

Friday Free Write!

About a month ago, I ordered some new customized basketball shoes of the Nike website. Basketball tryouts are coming up and I needed some new shoes. I have grown almost three shoe sizes since last season ! I am now wearing Kobe's latest model of shoes, Kobe VI. The shoes are low toped, like a running sneaker making them light. Along with the shoes I bought some Derek Rose Adidas ankle braces. The ankle braces give me support so I don't end up rolling an ankle. I am ready for the upcoming season. Now all I need to do is get back into the flow of basketball.

Video Response

Summary

In this video, a wildfire victim returns to her home after fleeing from the flames. It was a neighborhood outside of Austin, Texas. She was one of the 24 people that had their houses destroyed in a wildfire. She lives on the street now. Although this unfortunate event, Michelle says she is the luckiest person alive because she got out safely with her family.

Reflection

I thought this video was a little heart-breaking. I couldn't imagine only having 15 minutes to grab my things and get out. It must have been terrifying. But I liked her attitude about the whole thing. She says she is lucky to have gotten away safe.

Digital Driver's License Response

When I compared my answers to how the class responded, I found many similarities. Most of my answers were matching with the class census. I think that I have a good idea in my mind of how the internet works and what is right and wrong. I think that there is always more to learn about, but in my opinion I have already learned a lot. For example, before this class, I had absolutely so experience with blogging and such. I am still a beginner, but now I know the basic operations and purposes of a blog.

When I revisited the netiquette websites, I thought I would talk about flaming emails. A flaming email is when you send a very insulting and criticizing message to someone without thinking. That's why it always important to remember that if you wouldn't say it in person, don't send it through email. Count to ten and think before you send it.

Free Write

I have been waiting all week for Friday, and it's finally here! :) This weekend I am going to Lake Champion in New York with family and friends. We go there every year on labor day weekend. On the lake grounds they have a blob, rope swing, and ropes course that I am looking forward to. Hopefully this year will be as awesome as last year.

Role of a Blog

Whenever you are on the internet, I believe you should take precautions. That includes Blogging. I think that blogging is perfectly fine, it's a good way to express your opinions. Just don't put out any personal information like, address, phone, last name, ect. because you don't know who is viewing the information. But other than that I would feel safe blogging.
